Legacy Projects > The Indiana State Bar Association Courthouse Art Collection The Indiana State Bar Association Courthouse Art Collection

The Indiana State Bar Association began a project in 2007 to collect and maintain an original work of art depicting all of the courthouses in Indiana, historic or current or both. The project has relied upon the efforts of lawyers, judges, artists and other interested parties, all volunteers, since its inception. To date, approximately 40 paintings have been collected depicting county courthouses in Indiana.

The collection is highly eclectic and contains oils, watercolors, pen and ink drawings, pastels and more. There is no requirement regarding the nature or style of the artwork so the collection includes paintings by professional and amateur artists ranging from large paintings to small paintings in a variety of styles. Several of the paintings are the product of a juried art contest hosed by a county bar association. Others are historic paintings by well known Indiana artists which were donated by a local bar association or other interested party. A special exhibition of the collection is planned for Conner Prairie in January of 2016.
