Celebrate Indiana Winter Reading

Participants in the Reading Challenge will be reading books on a variety of topics, most of which involve Indiana. These include books by Indiana authors, set in Indiana, from the Next IN Bookshelf, by an Indiana Author Award Winner, and more. At the end of the challenge, participants will attend a party where we will be discussing ways in which we can all celebrate Indiana’s Bicentennial. This challenge is a way to get people thinking and reading about Indiana’s history and future.

Q&A with Legacy Project Coordinator Portia Kapraun

What do you consider the key accomplishment of your Legacy Project?

  • Our Winter Reading Challenge is an opportunity to encourage reading throughout the year. This year's challenge had an Indiana focus, raising awareness of the Bicentennial and all of the events and programs that were to come. It was a great way to kick off our Bicentennial year.

Describe a highlight or most memorable moment related to your Legacy Project.

  • During our wrap-up party, participants were challenged to complete a quiz about Indiana. Not only did most attendees already have great knowledge about our state, but they often shared additional information with one another. It was great to see so much Hoosier pride.

How/where are you preserving information and artifacts related to your Legacy Project?

  • We preserve program information at the library and have also sent off all Legacy Project materials to the State Library for preservation.
