Heltonville Elementary School in Lawrence County is creating an outdoor nature lab featuring many aspects of “the natural grandeur of Indiana’s past.” Components include a Monarch Watch plot, a native prairie, American chestnut tree planting orchard, hiking trail, tree identification signage, and a woodland amphitheater. A dedication in May will feature a period costumed “Mrs. Ann Gilmore Hays Jennings, Indiana’s very first First Lady.”
