Amber Alert

Legacy Projects > Two Hundred Years of Historic Hauteans Two Hundred Years of Historic Hauteans

Two hundred years of statehood for Indiana has arrived, and Vigo County and its City of Terre Haute have a particular investment in this anniversary, as it was 1816 when this little village on the high ground was founded. As Indiana celebrates its Bicentennial, how wonderful for our city to be the birthplace of the man who composed the official state song, Paul Dresser. Arts Illiana will be honoring him, along with other “Historic Hauteans” during 2016 in our magazine, “Spectrum,” with four features that span arts and culture in Terre Haute for 200 years—with the help of the Vigo County Historical Society’s vast archives.
