The play “Indiana’s Birdboy,” written by DeKalb County playwright and author Rachel S. Roberts, tells the story of how aviation pioneer and Indiana native Art Smith built and learned to fly his own airplane in 1910, going on to become an internationally known pilot and celebrity. Roberts’ piece will be performed in October by Hoosiers from DeKalb County and the surrounding area, and will feature historic black-and-white photographs of Art Smith’s plane and flying exhibitions during the photographer/narrator portions of the script.
