The Northern Indiana Hospital for the Insane, renamed Logansport State Hospital in 1927, officially opened July 1, 1888, providing mental health care for citizens of the state of Indiana through the present day. The Longcliff Museum Committee will host a public open house at the historic Administration Building (1888) on September 24 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., offering guided tours and utilizing artifacts from the hospital to tell the story of care for the mentally ill in Indiana from the Moral Treatment Movement through the modern era. Periodic “Doodlebug” tram rides through the scenic hospital grounds will be provided. The programming and tours will incorporate the history of mental health in Indiana through our state’s 200-year history.
