Indiana’s National Summer Transportation Institute (NSTI) Program is a transportation focused initiative that provides middle school and high school students with an interactive and fun way to explore the transportation industry. The program’s goal is to introduce disadvantaged students to all modes of transportation related careers while also promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) disciplines in transportation education.
Students are provided with academic activities related to transportation and are encouraged to pursue transportation related courses of study at the college and university level. Students could take part in interactive labs, field trips and hear from guest speakers from the transportation industry while also exploring heavy equipment, bridge design and construction sites. Students can typically spend anywhere from 2 weeks to 4 weeks on some of Indiana’s most prominent colleges and university campuses. Students get the opportunity to experience college life by being in the classroom, on the campus, and with transportation professionals and professors each day.
The NSTI Program was created to ensure that the transportation industry has access to a well-trained, qualified and diverse workforce. Therefore, fulfilling future transportation workforce needs. It is the policy of the Indiana NSTI Program to encourage applications from students of diverse backgrounds.
