Asset Lifecycle Strategies

INDOT maintains management systems to support management of our bridges and roadways. Our bridge and pavement databases store bridge and pavement inventory and condition data, which serves as the foundation for determining asset lifecycle treatment.

The criteria used to determine construction or maintenance treatments and timing for each asset are captured in our bridge and pavement treatment rules. Details surrounding the asset conditions and associated data that triggers certain treatments are captured in these rules.

Based on the bridge and pavement data stored in INDOT’s databases and using criteria and treatment logic, INDOT’s infrastructure management software uses simulation modeling to forecast the deterioration for each asset and recommend treatments based on user-defined constraints, such as budgetary limits and expected bridge and pavement performance. The software then considers all potential eligible treatment strategies per asset and identifies an optimal benefit and cost strategy that provides the most benefit to the transportation network while reflecting budgetary constraints.
