State Data Center Map Guide
The State Data Center map collection is located in multiple areas of the State Library, organized generally by decennial census year and by geographic area. This guide will help you locate and request the maps you need for census research. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the State Data Center Librarian.
2020 Census
Maps for the most recent decennial census are located online only. View PDFs of the 2020 Census Tract Reference Maps and 2020 Census Block Maps on the Census Bureau website. The State Data Center will print large format copies by request at $10 per map.
For online PDFs of 2020 Census maps for additional geographic areas (voting districts, etc.), see the 2020 Census Reference Maps on the Census Bureau website.
2010 Census
2nd Floor, self-service: In print 2010 Census Tract and Census Block maps for Marion County only are located on top of the metal flat file map cabinets in the Reference Alcove.
Online PDFs of the 2010 Census Block Maps and 2010 Census Tract Maps for Indiana counties and all U.S. states, territories, and island areas are on the Census Bureau’s website. The State Data Center will print large format copies of these by request at $10 per map.

2000 Census
2nd Floor, self-service: In print 2000 Census Tract and Census Block maps for all Indiana counties are located the 2nd floor of the State Library in metal flat file map cabinets in the Reference Alcove. See the drawer labels for specific counties. Ask a library staff member for assistance pulling the maps from the drawers. Please do not reshelve the maps.
2nd Floor, self-service: We have a collection of smaller sized, laminated 2000 Census Block maps for all Indiana counties. These are located on top of the metal flat file map cabinets in the Reference Alcove.
By request: In print 2000 Census Voting District Maps for all Indiana counties are available from the 2nd Floor Reference/Information Desk. These are located in the library’s map room and must be pulled for viewing.

By request: Zip Code maps for the following Indiana areas are available by request from the 2nd Floor Reference/Information Desk. These are located in the library’s map room and must be pulled for viewing.

1990 Census
By request: In print 1990 Census Block Maps, 1990 Census Tract Maps, and 1990 Census Voting District Maps for all Indiana counties are available by request from the 2nd Floor Reference/Information Desk. These are located in the library’s map room and must be pulled for viewing.
By request: We have a collection of smaller sized, laminated 1990 Census Tract/Block maps for each county. All counties can be pulled at once for easy viewing. Request this collection at the 2nd Floor Reference/Information Desk.

1987
By request: Zip Code maps by Indiana Region, one map for Northern Indiana, one for Southern Indiana, are available by request from the 2nd Floor Reference/Information Desk. These are located in the library’s map room and must be pulled for viewing.
1980 Census
By request: The State Data Center has a special collection of mylar 1980 Census Tract and Block maps for Indiana cities and towns. Please ask the State Data Center Librarian for assistance with this collection.
1970 Census
By request: 1970 Census maps showing enumeration districts for the following Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) are available by request from the 2nd Floor Reference/Information Desk. These are located in the library’s map room and must be pulled for viewing.

By request: In print 1960-1970 Census Enumeration District maps for various Indiana cities and towns are available by request from the 2nd Floor Reference/Information Desk. These are organized by county in the library’s map room and must be pulled for viewing.
1960 Census
By request: In print, small aerial maps for each county with Township, Enumeration District, and Unincorporated Area boundaries from the Indiana State Highway Commission and U.S. Bureau of Public Roads are available by request from the 2nd Floor Reference/Information Desk. These are located in the library’s map room and must be pulled for viewing. Please ask for assistance from the State Data Center Librarian.
