Libraries Invited to Join Money Smart Initiative The Federal Reserve Bank recently partnered with the American Library Association (ALA) to launch Money Smart Week @ your library. Throughout the ten year history of Money Smart Week libraries have been instrumental in facilitating and hosting quality Money Smart Week events. The partnership with the ALA, which is the first partnership of its kind, will allow libraries across the country to participate independently or as part of existing state and regional campaigns. All Indiana libraries are invited to participate in Money Smart Week next spring, from April 2-9, 2011. Events will take place at libraries across the country and will and cover topics from learning how to apply for a mortgage to teaching young people about credit. Visit the Money Smart Week partners page for additional information, including the Partner Kit, @ Your Library Resources, and the partner sign-up form. Interested participants can also contact Alejo Torres, MSW Program Coordinator for the Federal Reserve Bank, at (312) 322-2287 or alejo.torres@chi.frb.org. LSTA Funds to Remain Steady for 2011 The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Museum and Library Services Act (MLSA) by a voice vote yesterday, clearing the last legislative hurdle in its reauthorization process. Last week, the U.S. Senate also passed MLSA under unanimous consent. MLSA will now be sent to the president, who is expected to sign it into law. The passage of MLSA ensures that the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) can continue its federal leadership role by administering the numerous programs in the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) portion of the bill. This bill received bipartisan support from both Republicans and Democrats in both House and the Senate. --------------------------- UPCOMING EVENTS & WORKSHOPS
