Two Indiana
Libraries Awarded Big Read Grants
Congratulations
to the Frankfort Community Public Library and the
Vigo County Public Library on being awarded 2012-2013 Big Read
grants from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). These two
libraries were among 78 organizations nationwide to receive grants
totaling $1 million for hosting Big Read programs between September 2012
and June 2013.
Frankfort Community Public Library will receive $4,200 to feature the
works of Emily Dickinson during a community-wide reading event. The Vigo
County Public Library will be awarded a $11,200 to feature The
Adventures of Tom Sawyer for a county-wide read. Each community will
receive free promotional and educational resources from the NEA, as well
as host official events such as a kick-off event to launch the program;
activities devoted specifically to its Big Read book or poet; events
using the selection as a point of departure; and book discussions in
diverse locations aimed at a wide range of audiences.

Have you heard about the Geek the Library public awareness
campaign?
Many Indiana libraries have made impact in their
local communities—and had a lot of fun—using this proven
campaign. While the statewide initiative is complete,
enrollment in the program is still open for all U.S. public
libraries. Supported by a grant from the Bill & Melinda
Gates Foundation, OCLC provides the support and materials
you need for free!
Find out how Geek the Library can help you educate your
community about the value of your library and the need for
support. Visit get.geekthelibrary.org for more information or
contact the Geek the Library team directly at
info@geekthelibrary.org.
Additionally, the State Library has resources such as
bookmarks, posters, table covers and large banners featuring
"Geek" spokespeople available upon request.
