Featured Ambassador

Serve Indiana cannot be more proud and excited to celebrate Joey Byers as our latest Serve Indiana Ambassador! Joey was a stellar member that seamlessly evolved into a stellar alum. He was so passionate about his term, serving LGBTQ+, People experiencing incarceration, Black, Latinx, and underserved communities that he began working at his service site after his term of service.

During Joey's AmeriCorps year in 2020-2021, he served on the Indiana Peer Education Program (INPEP) team where he helped people living inside become peer health educators. After finishing his service year, he was hired on the INPEP team until he transitioned to be a Hepatitis C Care Coordinator in May of 2022. Then, he eagerly accepted an AmeriCorps site supervisor for the upcoming 2023-2024 year. Joey also served on the board of directors for the Indiana Society of Public Health Education (INSOPHE) for the year 2022. Over the last few years, he was able to complete his bachelor's degree in liberal arts with a concentration in social and behavioral sciences from Indiana University in 2022 and intends on going back to IU to pursue his master's degree. He now works for a pharmaceutical company.
