Grant County Comprehensive Plan
Grant County has received a $60,000 OCRA Grant for the review of the Comprehensive Plan! Through a Scoring Committee process, Grant County has selected Taylor, Siefker, and Williams Design Group to lead us through the "Review Process". On May 6th, 2024, the Commissioners will review the TSW Design Group contract and upon approval will kick off a 10-Month Timeline to update the Comprehensive Plan. Area Plan will continue to update any progress or feel free to call the office.

Steering Committee Meeting

Duties and Responsibilities
Grant County Area Plan is a multifaceted planning organization established under Indiana Area Planning law and includes:
- The Grant County Area Planning Department and staff
- The Grant County Area Plan Commission Board
- The Grant County Board of Zoning Appeals Board
- Area Plan has planning jurisdiction over the communities of:
Duties of the Office include but are not limited to:
- Provide support and information and manage meetings for the Area Planning Commission and the Board of Zoning Appeals
- Maintain zoning maps.
- Enforce ordinances including the zoning and subdivision ordinances, as well as the ordinances for animal feeding operations,
wind energy conversions, and wireless facilities. - Maintain master and comprehensive plan.
- Issue and maintain improvement location and building permits (The Cities of Marion and Gas City issue their own permits)
- Issue and maintain change of use and substitution applications.
- Inspect projects associated with all permits issued according to current local and state building codes.
- Inspect and enforce any violations to the zoning ordinance (i.e., building too close to property lines, illegal business, home occupations)
- Monitor and address unsafe housing situations in the county and enforce the Unsafe Building portion of the local ordinance.
- Take petitions for re-zoning, subdivisions, variances and special exceptions.
**ATTENTION New Registration site for Contractors in Grant County**
Area Plan is updating the permit software we currently have to Schneider Geo Permits. The new software will bring everything online, which will include all Permits (either from Area Plan, Health Department, or the Food Department) along with submitting for Variances, Special Exceptions and more! Currently, we only have the registration for Contractors available. Contractors can register and pay thru the New System with the link below.
The link below is for the contractors who have not registered for the year 2024. If you have already registered, you should have received an email stating that you need to update your information. If you are currently registered for 2023 and you did not receive an email, please contact the office to update your email address.

**Moving forward once the new system is up and running Area Plan will have a class for the launch of the new system. We will make sure everyone is notified.
