On May 19, Governor Mitch Daniels traveled to the Middle East to visit Indiana soldiers deployed in Iraq and thank them for their service. The governor attended briefings with officials and Hoosier troops from across the state. Indiana currently has the largest deployment of National Guard members in the Middle East, including 4,133 Indiana National Guard members serving in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Indiana soldiers are participating in a variety of missions including convoy logistic patrols, force protections, and the Iraq-based Industrial Zone initiative. This was the second trip the governor has taken to visit Hoosier troops deployed in the Middle East.
