Welcome to the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) Falls Prevention Resource Center. This Falls Prevention Resource Center is directed towards the issues of preventing falls in health care facilities providing care for patients and residents. Falls are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries for older adults. Every year, one in four Americans age 65 and older experiences a fall. Older adults residing in healthcare facilities, such as nursing homes or hospitals, are at an increased risk of falling due to both internal and external factors . This page provides information, tools, and resources for assessing risks and improving the environment for patients and residents. The page also provides information about state quality improvement initiatives related to falls and healthcare.
