Pledge to Act

About the pledge

Health First Indiana (HFI) is a state initiative created by SEA 4, legislation passed by the 2023 Indiana General Assembly that transforms public health. The legislation provides funding so counties can determine the health needs of their community and implement evidence-based programs based on prevention. HFI establishes a public health infrastructure through a state and local partnership where services are delivered at the county level.

The Indiana Hospital Association (IHA) and Indiana Chamber of Commerce have committed to supporting public health efforts throughout Indiana, calling on healthcare systems and employers across the state to pledge their support for this initiative.

The pledge is a collaboration between healthcare organizations and businesses to help Hoosiers reach their optimal health and communities thrive.

Pledge commitment

I pledge my organization will help to improve Hoosiers’ public health outcomes within the counties we serve.

I pledge my organization will act on the following goals intended to create community partnerships through collaboration and communication with our local health department(s).

  • Establish ongoing dialogue with community leaders responsible for the development and execution of county HFI plan.
  • Appoint an organization lead for public health that will coordinate communication and provide updates to local and state leaders.
  • Discuss our organization’s health plan or other strategic plan with our local health department(s) and incorporate their feedback into future planning efforts.
  • Partner and collaborate with local health department(s) to specifically address at least one of the core public health services:
    • Maternal and Child Health
    • Chronic Disease Prevention (obesity)
    • Tobacco and Vaping Prevention and Cessation
