The Indiana Commission on the Social Status of Black Males in conjunction with local area commissions is hosting the Fifth Annual Young Black Males Matter Day on February 25, 2020. The event will take place at the Indiana State House, 200 W. Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46204 beginning at 9:30am.
The young men between the ages of 12-18 who attend will learn about the legislative process, civic engagement, advocacy, and community leadership. Attendees will visit and tour the Statehouse to see firsthand where the legislative process happens.
James Garrett, ICSSBM Executive Director, states “Young Black males need to understand how to advocate for themselves and understand State government and the legislative process. The statewide Young Black Males Matter Day will inform and enlighten black males and hopefully motivate them to increased civic participation”.
The ICSSBM has contacted leaders from the communities of Anderson, Bloomington, Evansville, Fort Wayne, Gary, Hammond, Indianapolis, Merrillville, Michigan City, and South Bend to help draw 250 young men from across the state to attend this event.
