This year there were revisions made to Indiana’s House Enrolled Act 1482 (aka the ‘Second Chance Law’) and the expungement forums have begun to take place again this year. Michigan City has held two expungement forums already, on October 11th and 18th. These forums give those interested in having their criminal record expunged the information and resources to do so.
ICSSBM Executive Director, James Garrett, states “The Second Chance Expungement events are significant for not only expunging criminal records but more so for providing individuals with a second chance and the ability to take advantage of education, employment and housing opportunities.”
Gary, South Bend, Indianapolis and Bloomington have expressed interest in expungement forums and are looking to set definitive dates. Once set, the forums will be free and open to the public. Attorneys will be present to answer questions and provide information on the guidelines, process and various legal aspects regarding the new bill. Attendees are encouraged to bring pertinent documents if they have inquiries about their personal circumstances.
