The work of many agencies at the federal, state, and local levels of government often overlap in the effort to protect humans and our environment. The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) is the state agency responsible for implementing environmental regulations in order to protect human health and the environment. However, IDEM is not in charge of many programs directly affecting human health, as those programs are administered through the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH). The impact of the environment on human health, and the impact of humans on environmental health results in a complex web of inseparable interactions. It is important to learn more about these impacts and how to handle them.
