Waste Tire Grants

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) is committed to helping local communities remove and properly dispose of waste tires. Waste tires that are left in the open environment are subject to collecting rainwater and becoming a breeding ground for mosquitoes. In an effort to prevent human health/environmental concerns associated with tires, IDEM has created a waste tire grant program.

IDEM encourages Solid Waste Management Districts (SWMDs), to apply for a waste tire grant.  For counties without a SWMD, a municipal or county government may apply. Please note that only one grant is awarded per county, with preference given to SWMDs.

IDEM has $300,000 available in grant funding for 2025 fiscal year.  Applications will be accepted from December 17, 2024 to January 17, 2025.  Waste Tire Grants will be awarded up to $10,000.

IDEM will again be hosting two webinars to provide information on the grant program, application guidelines, timelines, and requirements.

* Please be aware that the Waste Tire Transporter, Storage, and Processor Numbers being requested are the registration numbers and should be in the format of XX-(P, T, or S)-XXXXX

Existing Grantees

Forms needed for the grant can be found on IDEM's Agency Forms page. Once on the page click on "Waste Tires" under the Office of Land Quality heading.

The forms include:

  • Waste Tire Grant Expenditure Form (State Form 57242)
  • Waste Tire Grant Program Final Report (State Form 57240)

Request for payment will be processed only upon presentation of supportive documentation and the Waste Tire Grant Expenditure Form. Claims submitted without accompanying supportive documentation will be returned to the Grantee and not processed for payment.

Claims shall be submitted to the State within 60 calendar days following any purchase(s) or completion of worked performed on or for the Project.

All final claims and reports must be submitted to the State within 30 calendar days after the expiration or termination of your Waste Tire Grant Agreement. Please remember your Waste Tire Grant Program Final Report is due 10 days before the termination date of the grant.  The form can be submitted early if grant work is complete.
