County Assessment
The Indiana State Department of Health's Immunization Division embraces the goals set forth in Healthy People 2020. Healthy People 2020 objectives include targets for reducing vaccine-preventable disease rates and increasing vaccine coverage. Part of the Healthy People 2020 goals is to use health information technology to track immunization status and improvement of knowledge on vaccine safety and adverse events, which align with the National Vaccine Plan. To reach these objectives, the Immunization Division will annually report the immunization rates by county.
For 2019, the Immunization Program analyzed immunization rates for completion of the 4:3:1:3:3:1:4 series (4 doses of DTaP, 3 doses of IPV, 1 dose of MMR, 3 doses of Hib, 3 doses of Hep B, 1 dose of varicella and 4 doses of PCV). The immunization rate for Indiana is 70% for completion of the 4:3:1:3:3:1:4 series at 19-35 months and nearly 64% of our counties were at or above the rate of 70%. These rates were obtained from the Indiana Children and Hoosier Immunization Registry (CHIRP). The 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 annual reports for the immunization rate for Indiana Counties is located in PDF format for download below.
