David W. Henry was born in Achor, Ohio. After attending law school in Indianapolis, Henry settled in Terre Haute where he was active as a lawyer and judge throughout his life. Henry married Virginia Thompson, daughter of another prominent Hoosier lawyer, Richard Wigginton Thompson. After leaving the bench in 1897, Henry was appointed Collector of Internal Revenue. Two of Henry's addresses were published, both of which dealt with prominent Americans.
