Louis B. Ewbank was born in Guilford, Indiana. In 1914, Ewbank was elected judge of the Marion County Circuit Court. He ascended to the Indiana Supreme Court bench in 1920. He returned to private practice in the firm of Whitcomb, Ewbank, & Dowden in 1927. Ewbank authored several legal texts and served as editor of the Indiana Cumulative Digest throughout the early 1900s. He also published Morgan's Raid in Indiana, an account of Confederate cavalry leader John H. Morgan's raid through Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio in 1863.
