Biographical History:

Albert Barnes Anderson was born in Zionsville on February 10, 1857, the son of Philander and Emma A. Anderson. He attended Wabash College, graduating in 1879 with an A.B. Anderson passed the bar in 1881 and received his LL.D. in 1907. He practiced law in Crawfordsville, IN, where he married Rose Campbell on November 14, 1882. In 1902, Theodore Roosevelt appointed Anderson as a federal district judge in the Southern Indiana District, a position he would hold for 23 years. In 1925, he was appointed to the Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago by Calvin Coolidge. He remained there for four years until his retirement in 1929. During his career, Anderson passed judgment on some well-publicized trials, including the indictment of Warren T. McCray, a trial of 40 union workers who tried to destroy the L.A. Times Building in 1912, and the 1919 coal workers strike. Anderson died April 27, 1938 and was laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery in Crawfordsville.
