Biographical Note:
Oliver M. Wilson was born in Logansport, Indiana, August 16, 1836 and was the son of Lazarus Brown and Mary Todd Barbee Wilson. He graduated from Hamilton College, Clinton, New York in 1858 where he studied law. He was admitted to the Indiana bar in 1859. He married Mary Actelia on October 4, 1860 and they had six children. Wilson worked as a clerk of the Indianapolis Sinking Fund Commission in 1860 and the Swamp Land Commission in 1862. He organized a company of men during the Civil War and served as captain of the 54th Regiment, Indiana Volunteers from 1862-1863. He was elected to the Indiana senate and served as secretary from 1865-1871. He wrote the Digest of Parliamentary Law. He was elected to the Indiana House of Representatives for Marion County in 1871. He served as assistant U.S. district attorney during President Grant’s administration, and later opened a private law practice in Arkansas City, Kansas in 1887. Oliver M. Wilson died in Kansas City, Missouri on July 19, 1907.

This collection contains one letter from Oliver M. Wilson in Kansas City, Missouri to Robert W. McBride. McBride was a friend and former assistant of Wilson’s when Wilson served in the Indiana Senate.
