About the Office of the CDO

The Office of the Chief Data Officer (CDO) was established as part of IC 4-3-26, along with the Indiana Management Performance Hub (MPH), on July 1, 2017. The CDO serves as the executive head of MPH and advises executive state agencies and political subdivisions regarding state best practices concerning the creation and maintenance of data. Additionally, the CDO coordinates data analytics and transparency master planning for the executive state agencies and provides leadership regarding state data analytics and transparency.

Pete Miller was appointed by Gov. Braun as Indiana’s Chief Data Officer and Executive Director of the Management Performance Hub on January 13, 2025.  He has served in a variety of state government roles including:  Deputy Director of the Government Efficiency & Financial Planning division of OMB under Gov. Daniels, elected State Senator representing Hendricks and Putnam counties, appointed member and secretary of the Indiana State Board of Education, and Executive Director of the Distressed Unit Appeal Board under Gov. Holcomb.  He has significant private sector experience as well, having worked as a systems consultant, database analyst and manager of a business intelligence team.

Pete has a passion for extracting value-added information from data, and is mindful that data management is as much about people and processes as it is about technology.  He graduated from Purdue University with a BS in Industrial Management and a Computer Science minor.
