License Renewal from Expired Status

Requirements to Renew an Expired License or Registration

A veterinarian or registered veterinarian technician may renew an expired license if the license has been expired for fewer than 3 years.  In renewing the expired license, the licensed veterinarian or registered veterinarian technician must:

1. Submit the completed renewal application.

2. Pay the current renewal fee required as part of the renewal application.

3. Pay the reinstatement fee established by Board of Veterinary Medicine.

4. Comply with any requirements specified by the Board regarding continuing education.

Requirements to Renew a License or Registration Expired 3 or more years

A veterinarian or a registered veterinary technician may renew an expired license more than 3 years after the date of the expiration by making written application for renewal and paying the required fees. However, the board may—as deemed appropriate under the circumstances—require as a condition of renewal of an expired license that the applicant:

1. Appear before the board.

2. Complete continuing education or remediation and additional training.

3. Practice in consultation with or under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian.
