About Waterways
Indiana waterways are important natural resources for citizens of Indiana. The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) and Department of Natural Resources (DNR) are tasked with implementing state and federal laws to protect the natural resources and scenic beauty of our waterways, including the chemical, physical, and biological integrity, quality, flow, and capacity of our waterways. This also includes implementing state and federal laws to protect Hoosiers from loss of life or property due to flooding.
IDEM and DNR have partnered together to create the Indiana Waterways website to facilitate access to related information in one central place. The agencies have also created the Waterways Inquiry Request form to help landowners determine which application and Waterways permit is required for a potential project.
