Biographical Note:

Warren McCray was Governor (Republican) of Indiana from 1921 – 1924, until he resigned following his conviction for mail fraud in 1924. McCray served three years in federal prison in Atlanta, GA. Before becoming governor, McCray was associated with the Discount and Deposit Bank in Kentland, IN (Newton County), and served as president from 1913 – 1920. McCray operated a chain of grain elevators and was a nationally known breeder of Hereford cattle.

Scope and Content Note:

The collection consists of McCray’s memoirs, written shortly after his release from prison, describing his family and childhood, agriculture and business interests, political campaigns and governorship, his trial on mail fraud charges, and his time served in federal prison.
