What are Problem-Solving Courts?Jennings Recovery Courts logo

Problem-solving courts are specialized judicial programs that address the root causes of criminal behavior, such as substance abuse. These courts take a collaborative approach by integrating treatment services, close judicial oversight, and accountability measures to help participants break the cycle of re-offending.

Unlike traditional courts, problem-solving courts prioritize rehabilitation over punishment. Participants engage in structured programs that involve regular court appearances, compliance monitoring, and access to resources like counseling, job training, and peer support. The goal is to reduce recidivism, promote recovery, and strengthen families and communities.

We currently have two problem solving courts in Jennings County: Adult Recovery Court and Family Recovery Court.

Adult Recovery Court

The Adult Recovery Court, also known as Drug Court, is a program aimed at individuals struggling with substance use disorders. This court provides treatment, monitoring, and support to help participants achieve long-term recovery and reduce recidivism.

Participants undergo a structured, multi-phase process that includes substance abuse treatment, frequent drug testing, case management, and regular check-ins with the court. Those who successfully complete the program may have their charges reduced or dismissed.

Family Recovery Court

Family Recovery Court focuses on parents whose substance use impacts their ability to care for their children. The program provides resources and structured support to help families reunite in a safe and healthy environment.

Through counseling, parenting classes, substance abuse treatment, and judicial supervision, Family Recovery Court helps parents regain custody of their children while ensuring a stable and nurturing home environment. The ultimate goal is to create lasting family stability and prevent future involvement with the legal system.
