FEMA Program Partners Team
- Adam Bales
Adam Bales joined the Division of Water in November 2011 as a Staff Engineer for the South Basin Team. He currently serves as Hydraulic Engineer Supervisor, overseeing the FEMA Program Partners Team. In this role also is the Indiana CTP Lead and the FEMA LOMR Review Coordinator. Adam received his bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in 2011 and his P.E. license in 2016.
Adam enjoys spending his free time with his wife and two daughters working on their family farm in southern Henry County. His other interests include camping, gardening, and woodworking.
- Morgan Lucas
Morgan Lucas joined the Division of Water in 2021 as a Hydraulic Engineer. He has a B.S. in Aeronautics and Astronautics Engineering from Purdue University.
His hobbies include sleeping, reading, drawing, playing board/card games and tabletop RPGs.
- Paul Brayton
Paul Brayton joined the Division of Water in November of 2018 in the Central Office. He is an Eagle Scout and passionate outdoorsman. His favorite memories come from working with helicopters on the flightline and providing environmental protection during a 20-year career as a U.S. Marine helicopter mechanic.
Paul earned a B.S. in Agricultural Engineering, focusing on Environmental Science and Natural Resources, from Purdue University, in May of 2018.
- Danielle Bowman
Danielle Bowman joined the Division of Water Engineering Services Section in August 2019 as a Hydraulic Engineer. She graduated from Purdue University’s Agricultural Engineering program in 2018 with a B.S. in Environmental and Natural Resource Engineering.
Her hobbies include playing video games; playing with her cat, Asher; and checking out new wineries and breweries with friends.
- Deidre Hansen
Deidre Hansen joined the Division of Water in August 2023 as a project manager for the Engineering Service Center. She has her B.S, in Exercise Science from Ball State University and a master’s in psychology from Adler University. Her previous work includes serving at the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission and in the solar industry.
She enjoys spending her free time with her daughter, all her sisters and their parents, going to CrossFit, gardening, and engaging as a local coordinator for international exchange students.
- Aung Htu
Aung Htut began his career with the Division of Water as a Hydraulic Engineer in July 2024. He worked in the Thailand and United Arab Emirates as a Water Resources Engineer and Water Supply / Sewerage Engineer since 2012.
State Engineering Resources Team
- Amanda Brock
Amanda Brock started working at the Division of Water in 2017. She currently serves as the State Team Supervisor. She has an M.S. from Purdue University in Agricultural and Biological Engineering.
- Seth Farmer
Seth Farmer began with Engineering in the Division of Water after graduating from Purdue University in 2018 with a B.S.E. in Agricultural Engineering. He enjoys hiking, the wilderness, bodies of water, traveling, and watching Purdue basketball.
- Namita Lenka
Namita Lenka is a Hydraulic Engineer with a background in Civil Engineering and joined the Division of Water in July 2023. She is experienced in designing and estimating check dams, as well as small to medium irrigation projects. In her leisure time, she enjoys cooking, dancing, and going on road trips.
- Lorena Godoy
Lorena Godoy joined the Division of Water as a Hydraulic Engineer in January 2024. She came to the U.S. from Argentina in 2021 to teach in the Mechanical and Civil Engineering Department at Purdue University Northwest. She got her B.S. in Civil Engineering from the National Technological University, the biggest university specialized in engineering in Argentina. Her hobbies include dancing, singing, exercising, and reading.
- Claire Haselhorst
Claire Haselhorst joined the Division of Water in 2019 as a Hydraulic Engineer. She earned a B.S. in Environmental and Natural Resources Engineering from Purdue University and a master’s in Agricultural Engineering from Purdue University. Her hobbies include baking, crafting, raising animals, playing board games with friends, and hosting big dinner parties for friends and family.
- Dustin Thurston
Dustin Thurston started with DNR as a summer intern in 2002. After earning his B.S. in Environmental & Natural Resources Engineering from Purdue University, he rejoined DNR full-time the following summer. In 2012, he returned to DNR after a stint in drainage design with a local engineering firm. After eight years as a stormwater project manager with the Indianapolis Department of Public Works, he returned to DNR in 2024.
Geographic Information Services Team
- Amena Ruma
Amena Ruma joined DNR as an Environmental Manager in 2022 after graduating from the University of South Dakota (USD) with a master’s in biology. While at USD she also worked as a research assistant, starting in 2018 for an NPS-funded project to assess geomorphological and ecological changes due to the 2011 flood in two segments of the Missouri River. Before that, she worked for a couple of years at two NGOs in Bangladesh after completing her B.S. in Environmental Sciences from Asian University for Women, the first liberal arts college in Bangladesh. She loves gardening, reading, painting, baking and traveling in her spare time. Amena is also a Black Belt in karate.
- Abass Mallam
Abass Mallam was born and educated in Niger (West Africa). He has an M.S. in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) from IUPUI and a B.S. in Physical Geography from University of Niamey-Niger. Abass is fluent in French (official language), as well as Haussa, Zarma, and English. Abass joined the Division of Water in October 2021.
