Our Teams
- Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS)
Launched in 1984, BRFSS is the largest continuously conducted health survey in the world. Our Indiana BRFSS Coordinator manages all aspects of the BRFSS for our state, including questionnaire design, data collection, analysis and dissemination of special reports.
- Data Science
The data science team utilizes data systems and analytics as key components of public health decision-making and reporting. The data science team analyzes hospitalization records, vaccine counts, endemic illness infection rates and more.
- Data Visualization
The data visualization team creates public health data displays that Hoosiers can interact with to understand trends and current happenings in public health across Indiana.
- Data Analysis
The data analysis team helps create several annual Indiana public health reports, including the state’s natality report, mortality report, BRFSS reports and more. The team also develops training materials to help state employees learn more about data analysis and management.
- Data Management
The data management team ensures that IDOH’s data assets meet agency requirements, and the public health information needs of all Hoosiers. The team oversees the organization of data resources and ensures data accuracy and reliability.
- Data Engineering
The data engineering team designs, builds and maintains data infrastructure platforms for IDOH. Working in collaboration with other ODA teams, they perform data ingestion, cleaning, transformation and aggregation to provide datasets for internal and external audiences.
- Data Governance
The data governance team sets goals and priorities for how to protect, store, optimize and interact with Indiana’s health data, and promotes corresponding technologies that will help internal and external audiences use the data.
