Funding Available for Recycling Projects

IDEM’s Office of Program Support offers two recycling grant funding programs:

Community Recycling Grant Program

The Community Recycling Grant Program (CRGP) works with Indiana solid waste management districts, local government, schools, universities, and nonprofit organizations that:

  • Start or expand a recycling, source reduction, reuse, buy-recycled, or composting program
  • Offer a new service, collect a new material, and/or serve a new area through the establishment of a new permanent service
  • Improve efficiency and sustainability over current program practices through increased volumes of materials collected, better processing of materials, cost savings, and resource conservation

Project Types:

  • Purchase of recycling equipment such as balers and compactors
  • Organics management equipment including chippers and leaf collectors/vacuums
  • Household Hazardous Waste collection and disposal methods
  • Education materials to inform new and existing participants
  • Recycling bins

Recycling Market Development Program

The Recycling Market Development Program (RMDP) grant works with Indiana businesses, solid waste management districts, local government, not for profits, and higher education institutes by funding projects that:

  • Build markets for recyclables through economic development opportunities
  • Promote use of recycled-content products
  • Focus on moving materials past collection and into the marketplace
  • Encourage schools and businesses to reduce waste

Project Types:

  • Equipment to process recyclables including wood waste, C&D materials, food waste, and reclaimed asphalt pavement.
  • Implementation/expansion of curbside recycling programs
  • Expansion of hub & spoke recycling operations,
  • Studies and Research Project, and
  • Education & Outreach initiatives
