IDEM is responsible for developing and implementing state implementation plans (SIPs) to ensure Indiana implements all requirements of the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) when U.S. EPA issues new or revised standards. Following are SIPs IDEM develops to detail the measures Indiana has in place to implement the NAAQS on a statewide basis:
- Infrastructure SIPs, which describe Indiana’s resources, regulatory structure, and legal authority to implement the NAAQS in all areas of the state.
- Regional Haze SIPs, which describe how Indiana will implement applicable federal requirements to remedy existing and prevent future visibility impairments in federally protected national parks and wilderness areas.
- Transportation Conformity SIPs, describing Indiana’s measures to coordinate air quality and transportation planning efforts.
