Measles (MMR) Vaccination Information

The Gibson County Health Department would like to encourage our community to be vaccinated against measles as cases are being seen across the United States.

Measles is airborne and can last in a room for up to two hours.

Typically, individuals should have had 2 doses of the measles vaccine (MMR or MMRV) before ever starting kindergarten.

The Indiana Department of Health urges you to review these MMR administration guidance recommendations from ACIP:

  • Children:
    • First dose at 12-15 months, second dose 4-6 years (minimum 28-day interval between each dose)
  • Adults:
    • Born before 1957: Immunity is assumed to be present from natural infection
    • Born 1957-1968: A single dose recommended if no documentation of live vaccine administration or not contraindicated or check a titer.
    • Born after 1968:
      • If received 2 documented doses of MMR, no additional doses needed.
      • If no documentation: Provide additional dose if not medically contraindicated or check a titer. In some cases, second dose may be needed.
  • CDC recommends that healthcare workers have two documented doses of MMR.

If you are unsure of your vaccination status, or are vaccinated and have underlying health conditions, contact your primary care provider.
