The Public Health Nurse (PHN) in Orange County provides education for citizens, as well as vaccinations and programs that prevent diseases, protect citizens, and promote health lifestyles.
The PHN provides both childhood and adult immunizations, as well as TB testing. Without vaccines, epidemics of many preventable diseases could return, resulting in increased and unnecessary illness, disability and death.
The PHN is responsible for epidemiological investigation of communicable diseases and reporting to Indiana State Department of Health. The PHN also works to prevent, control and identify contacts and reactors prior to the development of active cases of Tuberculosis, and to provide monthly TB medications and follow up therapy for patients.
Animal bite reports are managed by the PHN and reported to the State Department of Health.
Reports in children with high lead levels will be submitted to PHN for investigation and inspection of suspected source will be completed, aided by state lead inspectors.
