Our Mission
To Bring Loved Ones Home
Project Lifesaver is a nonprofit organization that works to ensure the recovery and safety of those in the community with cognitive disabilities, who tend to wander away from their caregivers. This initiative-taking program provides clients with a small radio transmitter worn on the wrist or ankle. Each transmitter has a frequency that is unique to the client, allowing them to be located utilizing receiving equipment by our highly trained emergency responders.
Is Project Lifesaver Right for Your Family?
Project LifeSaver is a proactive program developed to help quickly find members of the community who have a cognitive disorder and a propensity to wander. Those enrolled in the program will be issued a small radio transmitter to wear on their wrist or ankle 24/7. Each transmitter has a frequency that is unique to the client, allowing our first responder teams to track them should they wander away from their caregiver.
How Much Does it Cost?
All equipment used is owned and maintained by Decatur Township Fire Department. While transmitters usually cost $350.00, we are able to offer this service at NO COST to the caregivers.
Project Lifesaver is Available to Any Client Who Meets the Following Requirements:
- Has a Cognitive Disorder: (Dementia, Alzheimer's, Autism, TBI, Down Syndrome, or other related condition/disorder).
- Has a Habit of Wandering.
- Has a Caregiver 24/7: (They are always with at least one person can call 9-1-1 if they wander off.)
