Kathy Vasilopulos was born and raised in a Chicago suburb. She was child number 4 of 7 in her large Irish/Italian family. Kathy started her career in child passenger safety 25 years ago. She became a passionate Child Passenger Safety Advocate after becoming certified and realizing she had incorrectly installed her child’s car seat. Kathy realized it was easier to misuse a car seat than to use it correctly.

Currently, Kathy serves as Indiana's state coordinator for the Child Passenger Safety Program and the Region 1 Specialist. She helps maintain and support over 33 inspection stations and over 450 technicians and instructors in her region.

Over the years, Kathy has been nominated for the National Instructor of the Year Award, also as the Illinois Child Passenger Safety Technician of the Year, and was awarded the Advocate and Mentor Award at the 2024 Indiana Child Passenger Safety Conference. Kathy graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from Benedictine University.

When Kathy has free time, she loves to bake, cook, and craft. If you have been in one of her classes, you have had her famous homemade peanut butter cups. Kathy lives in Lake County, Indiana, with her husband and three bonus sons. She has one adult daughter, a bonus daughter, and three bonus grandchildren.
