The Vincennes University Haas Technical Education Center (HTEC) CNC Training Center is dedicated to providing the highest quality training available for Haas CNC machines and related technologies.
The center leverages the support of it's manufacturing partners to provide training on the latest technology available.
The center is committed to helping HTEC educators to bring their programs up to the next level, (train the trainer) and to provide all that receive training the tools that they need to be successful.
The center is also dedicated to helping veterans and other adult learners to receive the training that they need to begin a career as a CNC machinist. VU is committed to promote advanced manufacturing for the vital role it plays in our nation's economy and security.
The Vincennes University CNC Machinist Now program is designed to prepare Veterans and civilian adult learners to become well-rounded entry level CNC machinists with upward mobility potential.
The curriculum is a combination of machining theory and extensive hands-on training. The duration of the training is 16 weeks at 8 hours per day, or 600 hours. College credit is not awarded for this program, rather it is designed as an accelerated program of study around six industry recognized NIMS credentials based on skills needed for a career in CNC machining and manufacturing.
The VUHTEC CNC lab contains 15 industrial size Haas CNC milling machines and lathes, plus an array of supporting manual machines and metrology equipment. Training focuses on setting up CNC mills and lathes using many types of precision tools including Renishaw touch probes.
Students become proficient at using precision measuring tools for quality assurance.
As a VA approved program, veterans can apply their benefits towards tuition and supplies, and in some cases housing, and living expenses.
Candidates must have a high school diploma, or a GED, they take the TABE test and WorkKeys assessments, and ideally are interviewed by a potential employer from their geographical area prior to the training.
The training can be tailored somewhat to the needs of the specific company, and students are placed immediately into CNC operator, machine setup and operation, and entry-level programming positions.
Classes run January through April, May through August, and September through December, and are limited to 12 students per class to insure quality and access to CNC machines.
VU offers two dedicated off campus apartments for the housing needs of the students for the 16 weeks.
