The IDOH Medical Entomology team provides arthropod identification services to healthcare providers, veterinarians, local health departments, and members of the public on a limited basis.
If you have found an arthropod (i.e., a “bug”) in an indoor or outdoor environment and wish to have it identified, please contact your regional Medical Entomologist.
Please note that IDOH does not recommend and will not perform testing for causes of human disease in submitted arthropod specimens.
NOTE: Submitted arthropod specimens must be collected from the environment. The IDOH Medical Entomology team cannot accept clinical specimens (e.g., skin scrapings, scabs, hair, urine, feces, blood, saliva, or other body fluids). Clinical specimens will be discarded without examination.
