Both the Tri-State Tornado and the Griffin Oil Discovery markers are located at First and Main Streets in Griffin.
Despite the presence of rain showers, approximately 80 people attended the marker dedication.
The Griffin Oil Discovery marker was dedicated on April 29, 2006.
Griffin citizens also dedicated a memorial to local veterans, which was presented by a local World War II veteran.
Tom Straw applied for and conducted John Hall, who unveiled the marker, came to
local research for the historical marker. Griffin from Oklahoma in 1938 to work on the
Griffin oil field.
The marker dedication was held in conjunction with the annual Griffin Alumni Association banquet commemorating Griffin High School, which closed in 1959. Nearly 250 people attended the banquet.
