The Indiana State Prison historical marker was dedicated April 12, 2006 .

Both the Tri-State Tornado and the Griffin Oil Discovery markers are located at First and Main Streets in Griffin.

The Colgate Company purchased the state prison building from the State of Indiana in 1921.

Despite the presence of rain showers, approximately 80 people attended the marker dedication.

The Colgate Company moved the giant clock fom New Jersey to Clarksville and placed it on top of the factory building in 1924.

The Griffin Oil Discovery marker was dedicated on April 29, 2006.

The historical marker is located near the corner of South Clark Boulevard and Woerner Avenue, across the street from the building that served as the Indiana State Prison from 1847 to 1921.

Seventy-six people attended the dedication of the Indiana State Prison historical marker.

Griffin citizens also dedicated a memorial to local veterans, which was presented by a local World War II veteran.

Tom Straw applied for and conducted local research for the historical marker. John Hall, who unveiled the marker, came to Griffin from Oklahoma in 1938 to work on the Griffin oil field.

Jane Sarles, the marker applicant, unveiled the historical marker.

The marker dedication was held in conjunction with the annual Griffin Alumni Association banquet commemorating Griffin High School, which closed in 1959. Nearly 250 people attended the banquet.
