Research Indiana Indexes
Thanks to the work of our volunteers, over 1.5 million names are searchable online. More names and indexes will be added regularly. Click here or on the image above to go to the Index page.
For privacy reasons, each index only includes records that are at least 75 years old. However, the Archives holds many more recent records. If you are looking for a more recent record, please send us an email and we will advise you of any consent forms that may be required. To learn more about the individual indexes, click here.
To get started, we suggest checking out the Help page.
Research Indiana Catalog
A new online catalog connects researchers to the millions of records housed within the collections of the Indiana State Archives. The Research Indiana Catalog simplifies the process of searching the Archives' collections by providing listings of more than a quarter of a million holdings. The Research Indiana Catalog is the result of a multi-year inventory project, and will continue to be updated and refined.

To view records, please plan a visit to our reading room. Some records are stored remotely and may require advance notice in order to retrieve them for your visit. Some materials may contain material deemed confidential by law or restricted by promulgated rule. The Indiana State Archives also weighs the need for preservation from deterioration, mutilation, or theft in establishing access to original materials.

To Request Records
If you are interested in viewing records in our reading room, please send an email to arc@iara.in.gov with a description of what you would like to see. This ensures that the records are retrieved before your visit.
Microfilm with a location that begins MF indicates that it is a use copy and is readily available for patron use in our reading room. Microfilm stored in our vault will need to be duplicated or scanned in order to be viewed.
