Evansville—The Indiana Civil Rights Commission and the Evansville Bar Association will conduct a Continuing Legal Education seminar and a Fair Housing workshop on Friday, October 12th at the Evansville Bar Association office on 401 SE 6th Street in Evansville. The workshops are targeted at attorneys and housing providers.
“We are happy to be working with the Evansville Bar Association for the second consecutive year to ensure that attorneys and housing providers are aware of their rights and responsibilities under the Indiana Fair Housing Act,” said Jamal L. Smith, Executive Director of the Indiana Civil Rights Commission. “It is important that we reach every corner of the state in our education and outreach efforts.”
Enacted in 1968, the Fair Housing Act ensures that Americans, regardless of their race, color, religion, nationality, gender, disability or familial status are afforded equal opportunities in housing-related transactions.
In addition to the training, the ICRC recently launched a statewide advertising campaign titled, “Our Home, Our Choice”. The campaign reminds Hoosiers that they have the right to choose any house or apartment to live in that they can afford.
