The Indiana Department of Environmental Managements (IDEM’s) Office of Air Quality (OAQ) implements federal and state air pollution control regulations in Indiana, including:
- The federal Clean Air Act (CAA) (Title 42, Chapter 85 of the United States Code)
- National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) (Title 40, Part 50 of the Code of Federal Regulations)
- Federal acid deposition (acid rain) control regulations
- National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAPs) (Title 40, Part 61 and Part 63 of the Code of Federal Regulations)
- New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) (Title 40, Part 60 of the Code of Federal Regulations)
- Rules for the Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD) of air quality
- State implementation plan (SIP) requirements
- State laws and rules including:
OAQ works with the Indiana Environmental Rules Board concerning the development of new and amended rules, as appropriate. OAQ also works to develop nonrule policy documents (NPDs), which are documents that clarify IDEM's interpretation of an environmental statute or rule.
