Marquette Action Plan Available for Public Comment

The Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC) is releasing the Marquette Action Plan for a 30 day public comment period. The comment period will begin May 30, 2018 and end on June 28, 2018. The Marquette Action Plan builds on The Marquette Plan, a comprehensive and collaborative vision for guiding future decision-making across all of Indiana’s Lake Michigan shoreline, an area that holds a tremendous amount of opportunities and challenges.

The Action Plan identifies land across Northwest Indiana’s shoreline that may feasibly be transformed into new publicly-accessible areas for conservation, recreation, amenities, and livable communities, if it were made available for that purpose. The Marquette Action Plan looks beyond traditional property conversion and defines different categories of access across the lakefront, and identifies a means for accommodating those different uses on a region-wide level. Funding for this project was provided in part by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources’ Lake Michigan Coastal Program, and the Regional Development Authority.
