Disaster Relief

Designated Disaster Areas

The IRS and DOR offer tax filing extensions for disaster tax relief to any area designated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The current list of eligible localities is available at IRS.gov.

Automatic disaster area tax filing extension relief measures can vary due to:

  • Location of the disaster
  • Differences in the date of the disaster
  • Date of the disaster area declaration
  • Length of filing extensions given
  • Due date of various tax types

For general questions, call DOR Customer Service at 317-232-2240. If you believe you may be entitled to an extension you were not automatically granted, call DOR’s Taxpayer Advocate Office at 317-232-4692. Business hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET.

No action required

If you live in the following states and need disaster area tax relief from the State of Indiana, extension relief will be provided automatically, and no additional action is required.
