If a source emits one or more regulated pollutants, it usually needs to have some type of approval to construct and/or operate. The different types of permitting programs in Indiana include:
- New source review (NSR), a Clean Air Act air permitting program that is also referred to as construction approval.
- Operating permits, which specify regulations a source must comply with in order to lawfully operate.
- Alternate approval programs, which may be appropriate for certain operating scenarios.
- Exemptions, which may apply to very small sources.
A permit may need to be renewed or revised.
