The Indiana National Guard and the Office of the Adjutant General provide access to public records in accordance with state and federal laws.
Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)
The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) provides the public the right to request access to records from any federal agency. Federal agencies are required to disclose any information requested under the FOIA unless it falls under one of nine exemptions which protect interests such as personal privacy, national security, and law enforcement.
To learn more about FOIA, see the FAQ page on FOIA.gov.
Access to Public Records Act (APRA)
The Access to Public Records Act (APRA), Indiana Code 5-14-3, provides that a person has the right to access information regarding the government and the official acts of public officials and employees. The statute also states that government officials have a responsibility to provide that information to you.
