Members of the Legislators' Retirement System (LRS) include legislators who have served on the Indiana General Assembly.
There are two plans in LRS: a defined benefit (LE DB) plan and a defined contribution (LE DC) plan. Your participation in one or both of these funds depends on when you served in the Indiana General Assembly.
The LE DB Plan
This plan applies only to legislators who were members of the General Assembly on April 30, 1989, and chose to participate. At that time, members had the option of joining both the LE DB and LE DC Plans.
The LE DC Plan
This plan applies to legislators who became members of the General Assembly after April 30, 1989, or who elected coverage under IC 2-3.5-3-1(b). Members in the plan include both those who are new to the General Assembly and those who served before April 30, 1989 (but terminated prior to that date) and returned to service after April 30, 1989.
New to INPRS Covered Employment
Take this opportunity to register your account at myINPRSretirement.org. Ensure your information is
accurate, add beneficiaries, and make investments (LE DC only) if you want.
Then get in the habit of regularly logging in to your account so that when you do move or your personal
email address changes, you can easily keep it updated with us.
Beneficiaries and survivors are different. If you die in active employment, your beneficiaries receive
a lump sum. If you die in retirement your survivors receive a benefit. Beneficiaries are determined by statute, but
you must select a beneficiary. If you do not have a spouse, dependent children or whole-dependent parents, you can
personalize beneficiaries to receive your contribution to the fund.
Contributions
The current employer contribution rate is 14.2% and will remain the same from July 1, 2026 to June 30,
2027.
Loan Provisions (LE DC)
You may apply for a loan from your account. The amount of the loan may not exceed the lesser of the
following:
-
-
One-half the present value of your account within the plan, or
-
The loan must be repaid within 5 years.
