The Department of Health responds to complaints involving residences that are unfit for human living and residences that are a threat to public health. Conditions that are considered unfit for human living and a threat to public health include illegal drug labs, lack of water or sewage disposal within a residence, large accumulations of human or animal waste, infestations of pests that can transmit diseases (vectors) such as mice and cockroaches, and large accumulations of garbage containing food products. The Department of Health will not respond to nuisance complaints such as bedbugs or the accumulation of trash that does not include food products.
